Song of the Day - 28-20: You Missed It, Honey!

Hannibal Montana - 28-20: You Missed It, Honey! from 28-20 (2013)

Some out of control yet right on the money noodly-ness from a cleverly named instrumental post rock/math rock out of New York.

Prepare your ears for this one.

Song of the Day - Little Fang

Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks - Little Fang from Enter The Slasher House (2014)

"Little Fang" is from Avey Tare of Animal Collective's new solo project entitled, Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks. Not only is this song simply catchy but it's also super accessible for an Animal Collective-related project, though I can't say that about the rest of Enter The Slasher House. That's to be expected really, I have never been able to get into anything AC has released beginning to end without a few skips or multiple listens.

The 8+ person emo orchestra pay tribute to the pioneer of all things experimental, John Cage with this spot-on rendition of 4'33''.

It's a must have.

Song of the Day - What We Loved Was Not Enough

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - What We Loved Was Not Enough from Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything (2014)

Efrim Menuck and the A Silver Mt. Zion crew is back and now going by Thee Silver Mt. Zion memorial Orchestra. Their new album, Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything is pretty tame for what Menuck has released before when it comes to his experimental post-rock music history. Still, "What We Loved Was Not Enough" is one of my favorite Thee Silver Mt. Zion songs and I am very glad to hear it on this album.

"What We Loved Was Not Enough" was originally released on a somewhat rare EP featuring the song in two parts in 2012. The EP was called The West Will Rise Again and limited to about 1000 copies.

Song of the Day - BATH SALTS

Future Death - BATH SALTS from FUTURE DEATH (2013)

Reminiscent of a Zach Hill project that never was/never will be. Spastic drums, blazing guitar riffs, and distorted female vocals - oh my!

Also be on the lookout for Future Death's 2nd album due out early next year!

Song of the Day - Jesus in the Courtyard

King Dude - Jesus in the Courtyard from Burning Daylight (2012)

King Dude is the solo project of TJ Cowgill from the black metal bands Teen Cthulhu and Book of Black Earth. His sound is very reminiscent of neofolk acts of the 80's or a black metal Leonard Cohen of sorts.

Very interesting stuff.

Song of the Day - Phobophobic

Conjjjecture - Phobophobic from Living For Dead Labor (2013)

Conjjjecture are a relatively new music group from Portland, Maine that press out some mellow beats, blow on a trumpet, and mumble into a microphone. It's really pretty refreshing stuff!

Song of the Day - Crippled By Pizza

Horse the Band - Crippled By Pizza from Pizza (2006)

Today, on top of eating a good pound of pizza, I ate the worst pizza I have ever eaten. I'm not going to say who made it or where to find it, but let it be known that cold peanut butter and bacon pizza is a big no-no in my book.

Song of the Day - Kowboyz&Indians

Gonjasufi - Kowboyz&Indians from A Sufi And A Killer (2010)

Heard this song for the first time today and thought it was pretty interesting. Reminds me of David Liebe Hart for some reason. Maybe if he (DLH) was really into dub and yoga...

Song of the Day - Easter Woman

The Residents - Easter Woman from The Commercial Album (1980)

Happy Easter!

Doesn't really have anything to do with Easter...

But I love The Commercial Album.

Song of the Day - Spring Into Winter

Black Eyes - Spring Into Winter from Cough (2004)

It's the first day of Spring and I got out of three classes this morning due to the snow storm last night...

*Insert witty Maine joke here*

PS: I still regret not grabbing this album by the former Washington, DC no-wave avantcore outfit, Black Eyes when I saw it in a local record store tucked away in the hip-hop section.

Song of the Day - Seasons In The Sun (Television Personalities version)

Television Personalities - Seasons In The Sun  from Fashion Conscious (2002)

Television Personalities take on Jacques Brel's (Though clearly perfected by Terry Jacks) beautifully twisted medley about death and twist it even more into a disoriented psychedelic track.

This cover was originally released in 1996 as a single.
