Link Wray & His Ray Men - Rumble from Rumble single (1958)
Banned from many radio stations in the late 50's, Link Wray's early experimentation of distortion and the 12-bar blues is an instrumental street fight. Are you ready to rumble?
Speaking of stipulations inside a steel cage match...
Ted DiBiase vs. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan - No DQ Loser Leaves Town Coal Miner's Glove Tuxedo Steel Cage match - Mid-South Wrestling (1985)
Say what you want about this ridiculous sounding match starring a crazed Jim Duggan and a beardless Ted DiBiase in tuxedos, it definitely made sense at the time. At least, that's what I have heard...
The object of the match was pretty simple really, get locked in a cage with your tux on and if you could retrieve the coal miner's glove (a big glove loaded with a bar of metal on the knuckles) you could use it as much as you wanted without being DQ'd or the match stopping. Once there was a definitive winner, the loser had to leave with their tail tucked between their legs and stay away for 30 days. There was also no time limit.
Scotty Flamingo vs. Flyin' Brian Pillman - Light Heavyweight title match - WCW Beach Blast (1992)
Part 1
In the opening bout of Beach Blast '92, Flyin' Brian defends his Light Heavyweight title against a pre-Raven Scott Levy AKA Scotty Flamingo. It's a solid back and forth match featuring two soon-to-be loose cannons.
Tito Santana vs. The Executioner - WrestleMania I (1985)
What better way to open WrassleMania week than with the match that started it all. I'm not talking that Hulk Hogan and Mr. T/Rowdy Roddy piper and "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff match - uh uh -I'm talking Chico Santana versus The Executioner! The first ever WrestleMania match!
Any smart mark will tell you that this bout between the masked and very unknown Executioner (not to be confused with Terry Gordy's Executioner) and Tito Santana was really what started "the Grandest Stage of Them All", making it more than just "the Okay Stage for Some".
A.J. Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels - 3-Way Dance for the X Division title - TNA Unbreakable (2005)
Some people call this TNA's best match. Some people call this the best triple threat match of all time. What ever it is, it is a whole hell of a lot of fun. That's right! TNA and fun almost in the same sentence...
It's hard to believe that all three men in this thrilling 3-way for the X Division title, a title that was heavily contested at this time and a big deal, are still employed by TNA as minor characters that aren't related to Hulk Hogan. Don't get me wrong, Chris Daniels, along with his tag team partner, Kazarian are probably the best tag team that TNA has got right now and the two blend phenomenally, but AJ and his sulking biker gimmick and all around lack of Samoa Joe in the Impact Zone is a sad comparison to what these guys were dishing out every match like they were at Unbreakable in 2005.
Rumor has that the current X Division title will soon be contested via triple threat match-ups only which means that TNA will either we introducing us to some new talent or they are just going to be having this match played at every PPV in place of the X Division title match for now on.
Honestly though, that's really not that bad of an idea at this point in TNA's life.
Insane Clown Posse vs. That 70's Guy Mike Awesome - Hardcore handicap match - Monday Night Nitro (2000)
While I'm on the subject of shitty handicap matches...
It's 2000, my mark meter is off the charts, I didn't miss a Hardy Boyz match, and I'm pro-WWF through and through, but for some reason one Monday night I decide to switch the channel over to the competition - WCW and their Monday night wrestling product, Nitro. I'm not sure why I did it, probably curiosity or some shit like that, but I did it. And guess what I just so happened to stumble upon? Ding ding! This very match...
Now to be fair, before getting into WWF and The Hardyz, I actually watched quite a bit of WCW. But when I tuned into Nitro again for the first time in some time, it didn't look like I remembered it... No, this time, there were two clowns, a guy dressed like the 70's, and the Partridge Family bus. No ring, no NWO, no nothing.
Then it happened, Mike Awesome 'Awesome Bombed' Shaggy 2 Dope on top of the bus and 2 Dope slides off and takes a nasty splat onto the ground. Thanks to this unforgettable match, I believed for some time that handicap matches were matches where someone ends up handicap like that stupid-looking clown on Nitro in 2000.
