Match of the Day - PAC and Ricochet put the flip in flippyshit

PAC vs. Ricochet - Open the Brave Gate title match - Dragon Gate Infinity (2011)

Two of the most acrobatic wrestlers in the world go head to head in this who-can-flip-more Open the Brave Gate title match. Some folks may not enjoy this style of wrestling as it takes a lot away from the realism that pro wrestling is known for trying to evoke, but for someone like myself who is a former diver and trampoline owner, I got to say that this is a lot of fun to watch. Granted, you need to have the mindset that this isn't the greatest ring psychology or there won't be a lot of selling (looking like they're hurt), this is still a style of wrestling that crowds like Dragon Gate in Japan want to watch.

While you may know that PAC is know signed with the WWE in NXT as Adrian Neville, Ricochet is still tearing it up on the indy circuit where he just defeated Johnny Gargano for the Open the Freedom Gate for the American division of Dragon Gate: Dragon Gate USA. Gargano had previously held the title for almost 3 years before losing it to Ricochet who, I might add, is the reigning Open the Dream Gate Champion for Dragon Gate as well.

It's only a matter of time before we see these two wrestling each other again, trust me.

Match of the Day - Another "Shitty" Lego Deathmatch

Shitty vs. Addy Starr - Lego Deathmatch - Inter Species Wrestling Burger King of the Ring (2011)

In honor of the Lego Movie -I haven't seen it so no spoilers - here is another Lego-inspired deathmatch from the human/animal/monster/undead people wrestling promotion out of Quebec, Canada.

This Lego deathmatch is the third in existence from ISW and features the same man who was in the previous colorful connectable building blocks mess of a match and was also in the second (which I have yet to see). The man I'm talking about is Shitty, previously known as Flip, who was brainwashed by Moohammad (the terrorist cow) to be a much shittier person. Shitty's opponent this time around was Addy Starr, a female competitor not afraid to step in the ring with the Lego Deathmatch veteran, but also not afraid to get hardcore with Lego covered kickpads and Lego covered taped fists ablazin'. Addy Starr even dons the D'Lo Brown Lego vest at one point to boost her already Lego-based offense.

It's a messy, and dare I say a "shitty" match, but that's what it was going for. This isn't Flair/Steamboat #169, this is a Lego Deathmatch, a match that requires the most brutal and creative looking spots to do with Lego brand construction toys!

Match of the Debut - Epico debuto

Epico vs. Sin Cara - Friday Night Smackdown! (2011)

I'm really curious where Epico went. These new Los Matadores characters could give the Puerto Rican team of Epico and Primo a serious run for their money.

Anyways, here's Epico's 2011 debut against the one and only, Sin Cara.

Match of the Day - Good 'ol JR takes on SIR Michael Cole

Jim Ross vs. "Sir" Michael Cole - Raw (2011)

It was announced today that after 20 years in the biz, good 'ol JR is leaving the WWE.

Rumor has it that his departure by have something to do with the drunken WWE 2K14 press conference fiasco last month or so. Maybe this will lead to one last Jim Ross embarrassing beatdown/mockery. Man, I sure hope not. Twenty years is long enough.

Seriuosly though, JR will be missed.

Match of the Day - The bread eating deathmatch!

Tsuyoshi Kikuchi vs. Ken Ohka - Bread Eating Deathmatch - Union Pro (2011)

Aw yes, the age old classic of two grown men and their hunger for bread.

The object of this kind of deathmatch is not to kill your opponent with lighttubes or glass or even give them a near-death experience with Legos or fine-china, no, this "deathmatch" is all about who can eat more bread that is hanging high above the ring. Of course, there are a few deadly shots with that stale-looking baguette that one could argue belongs more in a normal deathmatch than one where consuming bread is the key to success. You know, success: to be named the dominate breadwinner. Get it?

Don't worry though, the two opponents (or contests, I guess) Ken Ohka and Tsuyoshi Kikuchi were given milk to help them swallow all the bread they had grabbed (were they not aloud to use their hands?) from the strings. Unfortunately though, they had to share it.

Bonus: I embedded the version of this match that features English. The only thing is that Ken Ohka is said to be Roger Tableman and Tsuyoshi is Jasons Love-him. I'm not sure why, but that's the names listed on the video themselves as well but don't appear on the Japanese version.

Food: Bread (all kinds) and milk.

Song of the Day - Hungover Tehran

Mylets - Hungover Tehran from Colossal Grin (2011)

Mylets is a one man sort-of-math-rock-sort-of-what-ever band from Southern Indiana. That one man is named Henry Kohen. He was recently signed to Sargent House, a big name math rock record label.

Basically he's the next big thing in math rock world.

Be on the look out for his new album coming to ears near you.

Match of the Day - Akebono versus Big Daddy V in slow motion.

Akebono vs. Big Daddy Voodoo - AJPW (2011)

In honor of fat Tuesday, I present a match featuring that guy who sumo wrestled Big Show at Wrestlemania 21 and won, taking on Big Daddy Voodoo, better known to the viewers at home as either that guy with the man-tits named Big Daddy V, The fat guy in the pajamas called Big Vis, that big black guy in all black in The Undertaker's Ministry as Viscera, or that fat guy in purple who kept hurting people and actually won the 1995 King of the Ring... Mabel - depending on when or if you ever have ever seen him wrestle in the last two decades.

So yeah, this is definitely a "how much do these guys weigh?" Art Donovan kind of match up!

PS: No, this match was not recorded in slow motion, but from the stamina and speed that these two superheavyweights possess, it almost seems like this match has been slowed down to a snails pace... or should I say, a Akebono meets Big Daddy V pace.

Luckily for the Japanese fans, Big Daddy did cover up those titties of his... Ayeyeye.

God love the dead silent Japanese crowd.

Song of the Day - House

The Waldos - House from Sludged Out Fish Logic (2011)

Tonight The Waldos of Portland, Maine played their last show. It's a shame to see another stellar local act call it quits but bands in Portland are like the city itself... They rise like a phoenix and in that phoenix is a new band that is even cooler than the last.

For any of you who don't know, Portland is sorta like a phoenix since it burned down three times.

...and rose of course.

Song of the Day - Pile Of Dirt

Speaker For The Dead - Pile Of Dirt from I Hope You Have Fun While You Sleep (2011)

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Speaker Of The Dead play their dancing folk punk music for the first time. I wasn't quite sure what they would sound like or cause the crowd to do - since the show started off as a seated event - but as their music began to pick up and people started to feel the energy pumping through SFTD's chords, the chairs were thrown to the side and the partying began.

Thanks to Greg McKillop, the frontman, for putting the show on! It was a real nice treat and a good sort of welcome back for me as I am now home for the holidays!

This track is supposedly an Allenby Beardsly cover.

By Surprise - Battle of Snowmeng Mountain Pt. 2 from Arbor Christmas: Volume 12 (2011)

Here's a little something-something from one of my favorite bands, By Surprise -  taken from Arbor Record's Christmas compilation released last year.

This year's compilation should be dropping anytime soon; not sure if we'll see By Surprise on it again, however...

Song of the Day - 401

Goddard - 401 from Bishop (2011)

These guys sound like the coolest unknown band from the 90's if they were from the 90's. Definite influences must include Fugazi, Slint, 90's math rock, and Vernors Ginger Ale.
