Match of the Day - THE OCTOPUS! THE OCTOPUS! THE OCTOPUS! THE OCTOPUS! TAP OUT! TAP OUT!

AJ Lee vs. Naomi - NXT Season 3 (2010)

As of today, AJ Lee is the current longest reigning "Divas" Champion in WWE. In honor of this, I present the best match of the final NXT, before it replaced FCW as a developmental territory: AJ Lee with her pro, Primo in her courner versus Naomi with her pro, Kelly Kelly. This match not only features great chemistry and other words that mean they made the match look good from both rookies, but also features some incredibly insane commentary by Michael Cole, and I'm not just talking his usual mundane Raw commentary either. I'm talking rib after rib on NXT itself, Tony Chimel the announcer, out of blue references, and of course, Cole's obsession with calling AJ's Black Widow submission hold a la Antonio Inoki, THE OCTOPUS! THE OCTOPUS! THE OCTOPUS! etc.

AJ might have been eliminated from the contest soon after this, but she would quickly become the definitive breakout star of the show and earned her right to hold the Divas title once she made her way to the main roster. Plus, AJ's not a Total Diva, so they gotta give her something to keep her around... too bad I can't say the same for AJ's former tag team partner, Kaitlyn, who recently asked for her release from the company.

Match of the Day - The American Dragon tours FMW w/ Lance Cade in 1999

American Dragon & Lance Cade vs. Hisakatsu Oya & Yoshinori Sasaki - FMW (1999)

Two rookies from Texas Wrestling Academy taking a tour of Japan in 1999.

Here's a rare match, it's American Dragon, mask and all, along with his tag team partner also from the states, Lance Cade taking on Frontier Wrestling Alliance's Hisakatsu Oya and Yoshinori Sasaki. It's a bit slow, but it pays off once you realize that that guy in the silly dragon mask is now over as rover in WWE currently. Damn right, that's because that kid in the red, white, and blue costume is Daniel Bryan, the Goatface Killah of WWE.

Unfortunately Lance Cade, who did happen to move onto WWE and become a three-time World Tag Team Champion, passed away in 2010 due to heart failure.

Fun Fact #654: In 2012 Daniel Bryan was awarded the "Most Animal-Friendly Athlete" award, and was honored in his town as they announced that January 13th would be renamed, "Daniel Bryan Day". Yesterday was definitely Daniel Bryan Day!

Match of the Day - Mr. Instant Replay vs. "Slick" Nick - The Green Bucks

"Mr. Instant Replay" Matt Jackson vs. "Slick" Nick Jackson - HPW Heavyweight title tournament first round match - Hybrid Pro Wrestling (2006)

Currently, the brother team of Nick and Matt Jackson AKA The Young Bucks are one of the top indie tag team darlings going today with their constant spots and superkicks. It wasn't too long ago that the brothers were just two kids inspired by The Hardy Boyz and The Rockers to put on exciting matches together. Here's a match between the two brothers from Southern California in their early days before making a name for themselves and touring the world. They are clearly very green here, but they show a lot of potential even without the multiple dives to the outside, flips for the sake of flips, and superkick after superkick.

This Jackson brother's match also features the now-retired Human Tornado providing color commentary.
